Scholarships for international students are essential because studying abroad is a significant investment. Getting a scholarship will make it easier for you to manage the expenses that come with your studies and ease the pressure on you and your sponsors.

That’s why we’ve compiled a list of scholarships for international students that you can apply for to study in Canada. Here they are:

1. University of Calgary International Entrance Scholarship

This scholarship is offered annually to undergraduate international students entering first year in any undergraduate degree in the upcoming fall term who have satisfied the university’s English Language Proficiency requirement. It is also renewable in the second, third and fourth year at the University of Calgary, provided recipients achieve a GPA of 2.60 or more. The value of the award is $15,000 per year.

2. Lester B. Pearson International Scholarships at the University of Toronto 

This scholarship program is intended to recognize students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement and creativity and who are recognized as leaders within their school. A special emphasis is placed on the impact the student has had on the life of their school and community, and their future potential to contribute positively to the global community.

The Lester B. Pearson International Scholarships will cover tuition, books, incidental fees, and full residence support for four years. It is only available at the University of Toronto for first-entry, undergraduate programs. 

3. University of British Columbia Scholarships for International Students

The University of British Columbia recognizes the academic achievement of outstanding students from around the world by devoting more than $10 million CAD annually to awards, scholarships and other forms of financial assistance for international undergraduate students. These scholarships are given under the umbrellas of the Karen McKellin International Leader of Tomorrow Award, Donald A. Wehrung International Student Award and the Vantage One Excellence Award.

4. York University International Student Scholarship Program 

York University offers the Global Leader of Tomorrow Scholarships and the International Entrance Scholarships of Distinction specifically for international students who would like to take a full-time undergraduate degree at University of York. International students who have an excellent academic record and are admitted to York University are eligible for scholarships worth $60,000 – $100,000 for four-year degree programs.

5. The University of Winnipeg President’s Scholarship for World Leaders (for International Students)

The University of Winnipeg President’s Scholarship for World Leaders is given to international students entering any of the university’s divisions for the first time. The scholarships range from $3,500 – $5,000.

6. Pierre Arbour Foundation Scholarship for Graduate level study in Computer Science, Engineering and Management at McGill University

This scholarship is open to international students who enroll for a graduate degree in McGill University in the fields of computer science, engineering and management. The value of the award is $13,000 for masters programs and $20,000 for doctoral programs.

7. International President’s Entrance Scholarships at the University of Western Ontario 

Scholarships worth $50,000 each are granted to exceptional international students based on outstanding academic performance, creative and innovative thought, and significant achievement in extracurricular activities. 

8. International Master’s Award of Excellence at the University of Waterloo 

The International Master’s Award of Excellence (IMAE) is awarded to eligible international master’s students enrolled in a research-based graduate program at the University of Waterloo. The award is valued at $2,500 per term for a maximum of five terms.

9. International Graduate Student Entrance Scholarships at the University of Manitoba

These scholarships are offered to recognize and reward the excellence of incoming international graduate students. The scholarship is valued at $5,400.

10. Dean’s Scholarship at the University of Saskatchewan 

The purpose of the Dean’s Scholarship is to attract high-calibre students to the University of Saskatchewan. The award is available to students who are registering for the first time in a thesis or dissertation-based graduate program at the University of Saskatchewan. The value of the award is $18,000 for two years for a Master’s degree and $22,000 plus tuition for three years for a PhD.
