Canada is still on course to welcome more than 400, 000 immigrants into its shores in 2021. The Canadian government expects to build the economy by bringing in skilled workers to carry out in-demand jobs. This was the main driving force for the creation of the Express Entry system which has given a boost to Canada’s immigration efforts.

There’s growing demand for skilled workers in almost every sector of Canada’s economy. However, these 7 occupations are among the top in-demand jobs for 2021:

1. Nurses

There’s a high demand for nurses in Canada and this demand has risen even more due to the Coronavirus pandemic. According to reports, vacancies for nursing jobs have increased by almost 50% in the past year, especially in intensive care and emergency rooms. Tens of thousands of nursing jobs are currently available for qualified candidates. 

2. Tech professionals 

The tech industry is one of the fastest growing sectors in Canada and it also boasts some of the most in-demand jobs in the country. This is why provinces like Ontario and British Columbia have special initiatives to bring tech talent into the country. Occupations eligible for Ontario’s tech draws include software engineers, computer programmers, interactive media developers, web designers and information systems managers among others. 

3. Drivers

There’s a high demand for truck drivers in Canada. There are nearly 20,000 vacant truck driver positions in Canada and 61% of employers report they can’t find all the drivers they need. Almost every province has vacancies for truck drivers and according to reports by Trucking HR, Canada will have a shortage of 25,000 truck drivers by 2023. The average salary for this category ranges from $55,000 to $70,000.

4. Teachers

Teaching is one of the most in-demand jobs in Canada. Teachers can earn up to $111,437 and receive amazing work benefits. They are in high demand in at least 9 provinces in Canada including British Columbia, Alberta, Nova Scotia, Saskatchewan, Prince Edward Island and Quebec among others. 

5. Dentists

Canada is in need of qualified dentists to join its workforce. Dentists are in high demand in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island. Dentists can expect to earn between $140,000 to $234,000. 

6. Mechanics

Qualified mechanics can earn up to $94,103 annually in Canada. Heavy-duty mechanics are also considered to be highly-skilled workers who can immigrate through the Express Entry and Provincial Nominee Programs. Some provinces that are in need of mechanics are Manitoba, Ontario, Yukon and Quebec. 

7. Engineers 

Engineers with the right expertise, experience and qualifications are very much in demand in the Canadian job market. The salary expectation for engineers is between $87,141 to $148,140. Provinces that need engineers are Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island.
