HOW CANADA’S RECENT TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS AFFECT YOU

Thinking of relocating to Canada but the travel ban messed up your plans? Here are some things you need to know.

The Government of Canada has implemented temporary travel restrictions due to growing concerns about the spread of the COVID-10 Omicron Variant. Therefore foreign nationals including international students and foreign workers from the following countries; Botswana, Egypt, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Zimbabwe CANNOT enter Canada right now.

News Release

In effect: Travellers who have been in the following countries within 14 days prior to arrival in Canada: Botswana, Egypt, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Zimbabwe

  • Foreign nationals are not permitted entry into Canada
  • Canadian citizens, permanent residents, people with status under the Indian Act, are subject to enhanced pre-entry and arrival testing, screening, and quarantine measures
  • Travellers (fully vaccinated and unvaccinated) are required to stay at a designated quarantine facility while they await their arrival test result

Who Can Enter Canada?

  • Canadian citizens (including dual citizens), people registered under the Indian Act, permanent residents of Canada, or protected persons (refugee status) are allowed to enter Canada.
  • Fully vaccinated foreign nationals may be allowed enter Canada if they haven’t been in a listed country with Canadian COVID-19 Omicron restrictions, but are required to stay at a designated quarantine facility while they await their arrival test results.

What Now?

The IRCC has announced an extension on the time International Students can study online from outside Canada and have it count towards PGWP eligibility. You can now count the online study time from March 2020 to August 31, 2022.
